Bike Camp, part deux
After Gary got his beauty sleep.....OK, easy day today; a nice big greasey breakfast....then a 40 mile recovery ride. 17 mph avg, 124 avg heart rate, temp went from 82' to 91'....no cramps, no problems. Found some new white trash beer to drink with my fav recovery food....

Day one at bike camp
"This one time at bike camp"…….Gary wakes me up at 8ish and is dying to go. So we get the Ritcheys ready and and start off for a ride on the suncoast trail. What started as a 80 mile ride and we both felt real good that we figured what the heck, let’s go big and ride the whole trail; 100+ miles. It’s all smiles at the start during the first 20 miles; Temperature is a comphy 79', pace is 18.7 avg, heart rate avg is 135 bmp; it's happy, happy, joy, joy time. The wind decides to pickup and the second 20 isn't as rosey; temp is 83', pace drops to 15.4 mph (where in the heck did these rollers come from?), heart rate avg climbs to 143 bpm. That and we are doing KOM points for getting to the top of these rollers. By now we are wondering if we should turn around for an 80 mile ride....noooooooooooooooooooooooooo, let's go the whole way! We are down to one energy bar left. We finally reach the end, photo op time and then get started back. Temperature is 89'F.
Everything was fine till the 80 or so mile mark when the big, bad, ugly, bonk monster jumped on me; avg speed 17.7, temperature 92'F,heart rate avg 145 bpm. McD's never tasted so good. 5:54:50 to do 90 miles. After eating, we finished the 13 miles with Gary fighting cramps and the traffic (rush hour). Bedtime at 9:30PM and we'll see what day 2 brings.

another week....
and no real improvements. Damn.
It's real nice outside today, so I'm going to try to sneak in a couple of hours....just thinking of last year riding with my friends in Boulder. Maybe Jen & Jesper would let me sleep in the garage with the bikes? Well, the Ritcheys are getting packed up today for the trip to Tampa Weds night through Tuesday with a stop in Chattanooga for a ride on the hill climb that Bicycling Mag talks about..

Indoor Velodrome Coming to Cleveland?
Well, this may actually happen. Heck, I need to find some way to use my Specialized for other than "urban" riding. The fat lady ain't singing yet, but serious progress is being made. And yes an INDOOR velodrome.

3 times a week ain't cuttin' it
So, the first race is this Sunday at The Mid-Ohio (no, I'm not racing) and I'd croak at the 20 mile mark or less I'm sure. I ran twice last week & rode just 17 miles. Yeah, the weather was bad, I was traveling & my left knee was hurting; gee, can I think of anymore lame excuses? I'll get at it this week and next week I'm flying to Tampa for 5 days of riding and warm, sunny weather.
It's been hard to work out so far on the bike; in this weather, I'd rather jog/run outdoors on the trails around here than stare at the tube downstairs.
Well, enough....thanks for reading,
Rick

Indoor Training with power
OK, so I've got to show Brett that I too actually ride my trainer and not just talk about it, plus show off the new zebra socks that Donny bought me. Gary showed up with some damn CTS time trial workout wearing his "leader's yellow" jersey...it hurt. I'm still screwing around with my computers to get them working, but the power sensor on the Polar seems pretty cool, info wise. I'll talk more about it as I get to know the functions better.

Another Week, more snow
I can't really complain though; Gary & I were able to get a 44 mile ride OUTSIDE Saturday. Gawd, was it nice! Of course the power sensor and the cadence didn't work on the ride. Got it fixed and did a short trainer ride Sunday. Looks like I finally broke the 5 hour training mark. Jeese, I'm so pathetic. Team meeting went well last night at The Bike Authority and we have a new sponsor for the Valley City Race; Century Harley-Davidson. Yup, Harley, they will provide gifts and pace motorcycles/drivers for the race. For anyone that knows me knows that is my second favourite two wheeled vehicle; hopefully, I'll be riding a Harley again....I miss my sportster. The photo is from 2001; I can't believe how much my son has grown. Oh, Gary, Donny & I are planning a Spring Training trip to Tampa at the end of the month....more on that later.

Rick
